It’s almost over... aviation’s version of a long-running soap opera, that is. This week's big story is the apparent end of five years of political infighting over long-term FAA reauthorization. US federal lawmakers Tuesday settled on a four-year funding bill for the FAA, after an incredible 23 short-term extensions. The Associated Press reports the bill authorizes 63-billion dollars for the FAA through the 2015 budget year, and includes compromises on several contentious issues. Beyond that, the unions aren't happy about it, LaHood is, Bell and Eurocopter each claimed victory in a recent lawsuit, and quite few other aero-stories. In addition; ANN has been following the
retirement of two well-known NASA astronauts, the latest on the LightSquared saga, the roll-out of the Corvus Fusion, Canada puts a Lego-Man in space (almost)... and much more!
PLEASE keep sending us your feedback and ideas... you have no idea how important that is to us as we evolve the Airborne mission. As we listen to your critiques, we're getting a far better idea as to how to tweak and fine-tune future Airborne programming to fit your needs. We think you're going to like what we have in mind for the future.

Aero-TV: The Veteran’s Airlift Command -- A Higher Purpose
A Little More In-Depth Look At One Of The Bright Shining Lights In The GA World
Some months ago, we offered up a short but impressive look at a small organization that embodies the true of today's aviators... the Veteran's Airlift Command. This time around, we get a little in-depth and detailed about one of the true stars in the GA biz... folks who serve those who served us and present a positive and impressive aero-image for the world.
Airborne 01.27.12: GAMA Wants Obama To Support GA, FAA Funding Near, A380 ADs, and Sebring's LSAs!
Also: NTSB, Cubs, OMB Killing Towers, Atlantis' New Home, Great Glider Vids, And Traveling Politicians!!!
It's always nice when most, if not all, of the ANN and Aero-TV crew get a chance to unchain themselves from their computers and get some field time... and this past week, the annual Sebring LSA show provided an excellent opportunity to get out a bit... and do some flying! Great weather improved the fortunes of those who made it to Sebring but a new organizational structure running the event seems to need some tweaking for the future. In the midst of all that, we managed to keep up with the complexities of the various political dramas in Washington, an NTSB prelim on a pretty close call between a Jet and a Cessna, and some exciting new data on the latest upgrades for WingX Pro. In addition; ANN has been following the A380 AD, the upcoming Cubs 2 Oshkosh project, night flight tests for the F35, the NTSB survey of the E-AB industry... and much more!

Aero-TV: Rewarding Innovation -- Avemco’s Jim Lauerman Looks Over Redbird
An Aviation Veteran Evaluates The Impact Of A New and Innovative Aviation Training Program
It was quite an event... and one that featured a unique brand of excitement that we do not see too often in the GA world anymore -- the feeling that something "really different" is right around the corner. The event we speak of was Redbird Skyport's 'birthday' of November 8th, 2011 -- a date to remember... for the first time in a LONG time, aviation industry luminaries gathered together to celebrate the start of something unique, innovative and utterly NEW. A multi-faceted aviation research and development laboratory, located in San Marcos, TX, the Redbird Skyport is the culmination of the efforts of Redbird Flight Simulations and King Schools and is supported by a growing number of industry partners.
Aero-TV: 5 Questions At Oshkosh -- What's Wrong with GA/What's the Solution?
After Looking At The Positive Side of things, Let's Get Serious And See What's NOT so Good In The Aero-World
A few days ago, we noted that we really didn't have to tell you that these are difficult times for aviation. After decades of stunted growth, the wiles of a bad economy, tough politics and escalating complication have driven way too many flyers out of the world of flight. Still... it does have a few things that keep people entranced and that said, we took a look at the bright side of the issue -- but NOW its time to delve into the problems we face. Over the course of a few days at Oshkosh 2011, the Aero-TV crews took a break now and then to question the attendees about what concerned them about the aviation world.
Airborne 01.20.12: Citation TEN, Obama's User Fees, EAA's 'Black Thursday'
Also: LightSquared, Kestrel, SpaceX, JetBlue, Mustangs!, FlightDesign, 'Red Tails', Phobos-Grunt...and SO MUCH MORE!
Well... the sky didn't fall -- even though it appeared to be ready to do so... at times. It was a monumental week for the aviation news business as Cessna got a new BizJet started on its flight test program, Phobos-Grunt hit the deck, LightSquared was told it couldn't work--by experts--again, and the Obama Administration angered nearly EVERYONE in aviation by endorsing User Fees. To the readers and viewers of Aero-News and Aero-TV, this did not sit well and nearly 2000 responses later, we wonder whether anyone who flies will vote for this guy come November. Adding to those tales, we have news that Kestrel has found a home in Wisconsin, a JetBlue CEO says a few things he maybe shouldn't have, and we're going to have to wait longer to see SpaceX make its way to the ISS -- and of course, that's not all. Yeah, once again... a VERY interesting week...
Aero-TV: 5 Questions At Oshkosh -- What's Right with GA?
OK... Let's Start With The Positive Side Of The Situation...
Do we have to tell you that these are difficult times for aviation? After decades of stunted growth, the wiles of a bad economy, tough politics and escalating complication have driven way too many flyers out of the world of flight. Still... it does have a few things that keep people entranced and that said, let's look at the bright side of the issue before we delve into the problems we face. Aero-TV: A Revolution In Progress -- Jerry Gregoire Explains Redbird and Skyport
Here and There, The Aviation Revolution Is Alive And Well...
I don't have to tell you that all things aviation are not in the best shape we've seen them... but here and there, true believers are doing their best to not keep the art and craft of aviation alive and well... but doing their best to advance the art wherever possible. One of those people, a revolutionary at heart, Jerry Gregoire, is trying to make a critical part of the aviation world in the hopes that his own brand of revolution will spark others.
Also: ETS, Whooping Cranes, Pipistrel, Avemco, Hartzell, Avidyne, 787s, NIMBYs, Bell, NASA... and SO MUCH MORE!
It's been an interesting week for the Airborne crew... in addition to souring the aviation world for news, we've had the chance to look at the long range ramifications of some of the stories that we reported on in 2011... stories that will obviously still be affecting us throughout this year. The NTSB hearings into air race and airshow safety issues went off quite professionally and we believe the aviation world showed the world what it was... concerned professionals who have always had safety foremost in their minds and actions. In other areas, though, it's obvious that the EU ETS scheme will be a costly one, although it seems that the Administration may actually be waking up to do something in response. We're glad to see the FAA consider he Whooping crane grounding, and we're VERY pleased to see that BRS scored another save with the airframe parachute system that ANN's Jim Campbell had a hand in testing so many years ago. Yeah... a VERY interesting week...
Aero-TV: Bob Hoover At Airventure -- Flight Test and Military Service
Aviation's Greatest Living Legend Talks About His Life In Aviation (Part 5, Final)
ANN is pleased to offer you yet another snippet from the public conversations that took place with Bob Hoover at Airventure 2011... where he was honored for a lifetime of aviation excellence. In this program, Bob continues his discussion about his life in aviation, in a segment entitled, 'Flight Test and Military Service.' Ask any pilot who he (or she) thinks is the best he ever saw and depending on how long they've been in the business, the answers might surprise you... BUT, for anyone who had the grand opportunity to see much of the Golden Age of GA, its hard to forget the grace and professionalism exhibited by Robert A. "Bob" Hoover -- a man whom many have no hesitation calling the best they ever saw.
