The Aviation World Attracts Of All Manner Of Flyer
One of the things that never ceases to amaze those of us at ANN is the amazing breadth of humanity that finds its way to the aviation world. Man, woman, black, white, red, yellow, liberal, conservative, gay, straight... such titles disappear in seconds when such people are united by the common bond of aviation and the talk turns to flying. And at the 2011 Women In Aviation Convention, that was obvious to one and all as members of the NGPA participated in what has become one of the most positive gatherings of any that we know in all of aviation.
The National Gay Pilots Association is an organization of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender aviation enthusiasts from around the world. They host a number of social events each year and work to promote aviation safety and equal treatment.
Through education, outreach and special events, they tell us that they provide an affirming social and professional network for Gay and Lesbian members of the aviation community: pilots, students, flight attendants, mechanics, air traffic controllers - and anyone interested in aviation - all are welcome!
On their well-crafted website, several members describe NGPA as a big family, caring and supportive of each other. They have a strong online presence as many of their members connect through the NGPA website and Facebook. They also have a quarterly newsletter and monthly e-letter describing events and profiling members, while noting that, "We are sensitive to and protect our members' privacy, while we openly support advocacy issues."
