SpaceShipTwo's MotherShip Stops In At Wittman Field
The center of the aviation universe, for this week, at least appears to be a certain place in Wisconsin known to many of the faithful from the aviation world. It is also well-known to a certain spaceship builder who has serious roots in the same place... so as fate would have it, we have a real-live Mother Ship here at Oshkosh 2009.
Designed to take SpaceShipTwo up on revenue-carrying and research flights, WK2 is the first of a series of aircraft being produced for the fledgling space tourism industry.
As in years past, Rutan brought his latest project as much to show the crowd what he's made as to recharge his own spiritual batteries and find renewed creative energy for his projects. Rutan has often commented on the energy he receives from attending Oshkosh, and this year has been no exception.
