Vans RV-15 Nears Its Final Design

Team Assembles Final Wing and Empennage Sections Ahead of Spin Tests

The Vans Aircraft engineering team recently provided its spring progress update to the RV-15 build, showing off its redesigned tail, control system, and fuel tanks. The plane is nearing its final configuration ahead of this year’s EAA AirVenture fly-in. The design was first introduced at the 2022 EAA Oshkosh Airventure.

SeaMax M-22 Catches Fire, Crashes into the Potomac

35-Year-Old Pilot Rescued and Airlifted to a Hospital With Serious Injuries

On May 17, a small amphibious aircraft caught fire shortly after takeoff and crashed into the Potomac River. The pilot and sole occupant survived and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The plane, a 2019 SeaMax M-22 registered as N154RL, took off from Virginia’s Lake Anna.

Kolb Aircraft Destroyed By Tornado, All Staff Safe And Accounted For

Series Of Tornados Have Killed Nearly A Dozen People In The Area, Wiped Out Airports

The sport aircraft business can be a tough one... especially when Mother Nature decides you need special attention -- and not in a good way. The folks at London-Corbin Airport's Kolb Aircraft reached to ANN early yesterday to let us know that they were all safe and counted for but that their manufacturing facility was pretty much wiped out. The rugged folks at Kolb report that, "As of right now the death toll in London KY is at 9... None of our staff were injured in the storm. The factory facility was hit by the tornado and destroyed..."

Postaccident Inspection Of The Aircraft Revealed A Missing Cooling System Expansion Tank Cap And A Low Coolant Level

Analysis:: During cruise flight, the pilot reported that he noticed a temperature alarm, and a short time later, the engine sustained a complete loss of power. The pilot initiated a forced landing to a dirt road located in a vineyard. During the landing roll, the airplane veered to the right and struck a pole, which resulted in substantial damage to the right wing. A postaccident inspection of the aircraft revealed a missing cooling system expansion tank cap and a low coolant level.
