Douglas Day Event Supports KSMO September 21

Airport Crucial Base For Heroes Of Palisades and Eaton Fires

The Santa Monica Airport Authority and its Douglas Day committee, along with The Spirit of Santa Monica, announce a community event in support of keeping the airport open and to honor and celebrate the firefighters who were vital in battling the Palisades and Eaton fires. Douglas Day will be held at the Santa Monica Municipal Airport (KSMO) in California on Sunday, September 21 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm local time.

The Spirit of Santa Monica is producing the event and SMAA will have a booth to honor the firefighters as well as advocating for preventing the closure of the airport, which has been ongoing for decades.

Come on out and enjoy a full day of hands-on STEAM activities, music, tours, aircraft, and other equipment!

SMAA’s mission is to educate the community about how critical the airport is in its role of supporting firefighting, search and rescue, and life-saving operations during times of disaster and crisis.

The airport authority also wants its members to be current on events at and around the airport to maintain a high level of participation.

SMAA is reaching out to members for volunteers to help man the booth. Those interested can email Brice Cooper at staff@santamonicaairport.info

Teams from the Los Angeles Fire Dept., LA County Fire, and LA County Sheriff will be there showcasing their helicopters and equipment, talking about safety tips, and inspiring young future heroes.

  • When: Sunday, September 21, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
