UK Imposes Fines, Destruction Order
A drone pilot flew his drone at altitudes over 12,000 feet on numerous occasions in the Boston, England, area that flights by the Royal Air Force, National Police Air Service, and an air ambulance had to divert to deconflict the airspace. Police said the drone pilot often flew his UAS between 7,000 and over 12,000 feet and displayed “blatant disregard” for the rules governing unmanned aircraft.

Toddler Found Wandering Half a Mile From Home
On August 25, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department launched a search for a 3-year-old boy who had wandered into a cornfield at night. Deputies utilized thermal drone imagery to locate the toddler and return him to his parents. Since the sun had already set, quickly locating the toddler without additional assistance would have been nearly impossible.

Here we go again... The City of DeLand, Florida, will vote on whether to give final approval to a plan to begin charging landing fees at the DeLand Municipal Airport (KDED). If the plan is approved, the landing fees will go into effect October 1, 2024 and will apply only to itinerant aircraft. The rate will be $3.00 per thousand pounds of max landing weight. The fees will apply for touch and goes as well as full stop operations. Association Will Meet With Legislators To Discuss Business Issues
The Flight School Association of North America (FSANA) announced its first annual Flight Training Advocacy Day in Washington, DC will be held on September 17-18, 2024. The purpose of the gathering will be to meet with members of Congress or their staff to discuss critical issues that impact flight training businesses. The flight training industry is currently going through a very dynamic time, and the FSANA is issuing a call to action for providers of flight training to take the time to come to Washington to try to raise awareness among legislators about the issues and challenges flight training schools must contend with.

Thalgau Hosts Only Series Stop In Austria
The World Air Sports Federation (FAI)’s only stop in Austria saw 195 athletes from 23 countries compete in parachute landing accuracy. In this segment, skydivers try to land on a coin-size target from 3,000 feet (1,000 meters) above. The competition was held in Thalgau and 39 teams, with five jumpers each, were required to land on a ten-cent coin. Teams or individuals who touched down the shortest distance from the coin were awarded points toward the World Cup.
