The news Piper PA-18 Super Cub owners have been waiting for has finally arrived: CubCrafters announced the availability of an FAA-approved Supplemental Type Certificate, or STC, that increases the gross weight of the legendary aircraft to 2,300 lbs, more than 30% higher than the original specifications. The news comes after CubCrafters has been working on the down-low for years with industry partners including Lycoming, Hartzell, and others to make the Super Cub even better. On the heels of the first flight of yet another unique new type of aircraft to take flight with a Deltahawk diesel engine, their plans indicate that some three aircraft, the original SR20 (which ANN’s Jim Campbell flew two years ago), the Velocity V-Twin (Sporting TWO Deltahawks), and the recently completed RV-14 -- making for a total of four DH series engines to be making
From 2023 (YouTube Edition): Reflections on War’s Collective Lessons and Cyclical Nature
The exigencies of war ought be colorblind. Inane social-constructs the likes of racism ought break down precipitously amongst men thrust together into combat’s equal-opportunity abattoir. Faced with a common, indiscriminate enemy, human beings ought perceive—suddenly, and with perfect clarity—the immateriality of color, creed, religion, and the myriad trivialities by which they fatuously divide themselves in peacetime. Alas, they do not. When Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941, when Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, when the towers fell on September 11th, Americans ought to have grieved and seethed as a single people—indifferent to the divisions of December 6th, November 21st, and September 10th.

On June 4, 2025, at 13:41 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA-23, N2109P, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Palm Bay, Florida. The commercial pilot was uninjured, and the sole passenger received minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, they had departed in the morning from the Front Royal-Warren County Airport (FRR), Front Royal, Virginia, and were heading to Boca Raton, Florida. The pilot reported that prior to departing FRR, they had filled both main fuel tanks for a total of 72 gallons of fuel. The pilot also reported that due to a fuel leak, the auxiliary fuel tanks were not used. During the flight, the pilot made a fuel stop at the Orangeburg Municipal Airport (OGB), Orangeburg, South Carolina, where they took on 60.3 gallons of fuel to top off the main fuel tanks.
The long-awaited Sonex High Wing prototype has flown... the Sonex gang tells us that the flight took place on the evening of Monday, June 30 2025, and was piloted by Sonex Advisory Board member Joe Norris. Admittedly; the flight was a brief one due to a passenger-side door latch issue. However, all engine temperatures were reported to be in the green and the aircraft was reported to have handled as-expected with only slight rigging adjustments needed. High on Jim Campbell’s flight test list, leading into Oshkosh 2025, is the Blackshape Gabriel... a close cousin to the Blackshape Prime he tested some weeks ago... to very positive result. He came away with solid opinions of the craftsmanship, handling and overall performance of the Prime, as well as the general attitude of the company folks he worked with, to whom integrity
